I just updated my LR and I am trying to edit photos for a client but it says under develop "photos not found". I already went to library and clicked find all missing photos and it did nothing. There is no exclimation point on any of the photos, they are not grayed out,  but it still says in develop "photos not found". My hard drive is connected.
I need help I cannot figure it out, I have so many sessions to edit.

Are you talking about Lightroom (Lr icon) or Lightroom Classic (LrC icon)? What version number did you update to?

If Lightroom Classic:

Are there question mark icons on the folders? If so, follow these instructions https://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm

If not then please show us screen captures of what you see in LrC in a particular folder, and also show us a screen capture of the same folder as seen in Mac Finder. Use the "Insert Photos" icon to include screen captures in your reply.
