using old catalog and then upgrading to new

Dear all,

I am having a hard time upgrading to the new LR catalog changes (esp the masking) and need some time with it but have a ton of working coming up and am afraid of the learning curve.  Is there any way to create an old catalog on the old LR and use that and upgrade it later on? does this make sense?

Best to revert to the earlier version 10.4, until you have checked the new features available in version 11.

The catalog file is specific to the version,

A LrC version 10 Catalog cannot function with LrC 11 and vise versa.

And is there an easy way to upgrade to the new catalog once I am comfortable with it?  I usually do it when I get a pop up, but that doesn't come up after a while...
