Very slow after last update to 12. 2

It's almost impossible and annoying to work on LR after today's update - I had to update to the newest version as the old one didn't see the RAW files from Canon R6 II. I work on iMac Ventura at this moment. I didn't check it on my laptop yet but will need to update it there as well.

Are you running macOS 13.3.1 Ventura (the latest update) at the moment?

P.S. Correction should be macOS 13.2.1 Ventura.

I'll help you figure this out. Thanks for sharing the info about the machine. I'll need the Lightroom Classic > Help > System info. Does it slow down after a specific set of steps? Is there a noticeable pattern to this behavior?

Besides Lightroom getting slow, check the Activity monitor to know if the RAM usage peak, abnormal temps, CPU usage, and unexpected read/write operations.

To begin troubleshooting, test some variables like:

• Unplug any external peripherals & use wired input devices.
• Unplug external drives.
• Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor > Set it off if it is on Custom or Auto. If this shows you any differences, please check this article to troubleshoot further: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

This problem is not alone, I, too, after upgrading to version 12.2, and later 12.2.1 Lightroom began to work very slowly in the Develop module. The system is Windows 11. And it happens only during the processing, and what is very interesting, lightroom does not use system resources at all, the processor is maximally loaded at 10-20%. flipping photos in the film you have to wait for 2-3 seconds. This is very annoying when there is a large amount of work. I went back to version 12.1 it is stable and fast. Why do the developers always change something for the worse? My computer is powerful. The drivers are all up to date. All the settings that suggests Adobe to accelerate done, nothing helps!!!!!

Disabling graphics card does not do anything! Except for removing the smoothness of the photo movement on the display. And I understand that the developers most likely will not solve this problem, why should I pay money when I will just stay on version 12.1 ?

I know. I had it after the last update as well. It's very annoying especially when you use it a lot and time is very important for you. After these two times, I've started looking at other options for editing photos. It shouldn't be like that. I had to update to the newest version as the previous version didn't see the photos from the newest camera I bought.

That Lightroom to Exposure plug-in. Plug-ins can be a cause of issues. This can change with updates, either Adobe or the third party. 

1. Does looking at the plug-in manager indicate any issues/updates?
2. Does disabling that plug-in within plug-in manager change LrC performance after a restart of LrC?
3. Does the third party application. In this case Exposure have any issues.
4. Does the Exposure have full MACOS permissions/rights as LrC does?

I think I've found a solution to the slow performance of Lightroom 12.2+
Try deleting the "metrics.json" file

/Users/<username>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/metrics.json

That file appears to record usage data that gets sent back to Adobe. So you might try exiting LR, deleting that file, and restarting LR:

Mac: /Users/<username>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/metrics.json

Win: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches\metrics.json 

If that avoids the problem, then consider disabling the Desktop App Usage option: Do the LR menu item Help > Manage My Account, then go to Edit Profile > Privacy And Personal Data, and disable the option Desktop App Usage > Share Information On How I Use Adobe Desktop Apps.

Unfortunately this didn't work, Lightroom continues to slow down further. Went back to version 12.0.1 Hopefully ADOBE will solve the problem in the next update!

I'm having very similar problems too. Lightroom got very slow after the last update (v 12.2.1). It's slow to start, slow to shut down. Slow to switch between views and modules, to load images.

Nothing changed in my photo library during that time (81k photos). Lr consumers equal 2GB after launch, so seems not much.

During launch it's in (Not Responding) mode like it's frozen. I have over 10% of my drive available. There is sync happening in the background. As usual shows "Synced" when there's 37 photos "downloading" when I check in settings.

Lightroom is a joke! but this is their game! It is crazy slow and anoying! You need at least 8gb graphic card to run it smothly !!! Thats the way they do it, just invest more money for your new parts! New processor, new graphic card, more memory etc. It si the same with phones and other gadgets. I have powerful pc and it is slow like hell not to mentioned super fast m2 hard drives, just a rubish! Lightroom is a rubish and pay for it every month!!!

My guess is that the slowness is caused by the combination of a 4k monitor and a GPU with only the minimum required amount of RAM.

You have 2 GB GPU RAM, 4 GB or more is recommended for 4k or greater displays.
