In my 'old' Dell XPS Windows-10 system: I experimented and can-

1) View in Windows File Explorer, both as thumbnails and in the Preview pane.

2) Adobe Bridge works well also.

3) Freeware XnView will NOT show a thumbnail and only a tiny image in the preview pane.

Regards. My System: Lightroom-Classic 14.0, Photoshop 26.0, ACR 17.0, Lightroom 8.0, Lr-iOS 9.0.1, Bridge 15.0.0, Windows-11.

Grazie...

It is difficult to say because DNG files can be of different types. eg. a RAW file, a TIFF embedded in the DNG 'wrapper', etc.

Perhaps you need to install a codec that will allow you to view the files in Windows Explorer

eg.   https://dngviewer.com/download.aspx

"Instead bridge is the same thing as lightroom, I don't find myself in it... especially since it does not allow me to open multiple windows with multiple photos at the same time"

Bridge- Not exactly the "same a Lightroom.."- more like a File Browser, yet with lots more features that the Windows File browser. And I am not sure what you mean by that statement.

In Bridge you can select multipe DNG images  that will 'Open in ACR' where you can then select all on the filmstrip and [Merge to HDR]. Windows File Explorer will never do that. Lightroom-Classic has the [Merge to HDR] function very simple to use with a [RIght-Click] on selected files.

Bridge- Open in ACR:

Grazie a tutti

Most likely this issue is caused by DNGs created by LR's Photo Merge now use JPEG XL compression, which Windows File Explorer doesn't know how to handle yet.  See this post for some Windows viewers that can handle Photo Merge DNGs using JPEP XL compression:

"Honestly I didn't understand much of the post, and I didn't find any viewer that helps me view the Hdr-dng files. Especially because in the post I read a problem related to jpg, and then it talks about how to export correctly, while I don't export anything, I only use the merge as hdr function in lightroom. So unfortunately I didn't solve the problem. I have to settle for seeing the hdr created only in lightroom or bridge, but I don't need bridge that only opens them in camera raw and in photoshop. "

That post discusses the issue of viewing DNGs exported from LR and provides several Windows apps that can view them.

For DNGs created by LR's Photo > Photo Merge, I also observe that those Windows apps (Photos, Irfanview, Faststone, Snipping Tool) aren't able to preview them.

"I read a problem related to jpg"

As discussed in that post, the issue is that starting with LR 13, LR creates DNGs using a new, superior compression algorithm, JPEG XL.  Both Photo Merge DNGs and exported DNGs use JPEG XL, so I don't know why those Windows apps can view the latter but not the former.
