My System

I want a better understanding of my work flow and the deleting of files.

I’m use a PC windows 10 and Lightroom Classic 13.4

I use an Inca Card Reader that is plugged into a port bank.

Photos are imported through File – Import Photo and videos

  • At this point I select the photos that I want to examine further for development.
  • I un-check the ones I don’t want.

I then press the import button with the Copy ticked.

Photos are moved to a DATA file, dated to match the files.

The data that is checked is

  • don’t import duplicates
  • make a second copy
  • rename files.

What I am unsure about is what happens here if I reject an image and delete it

Either Button Delete from Disk or Remove from Lightroom what happens?

  • Firstly it appears they are not removed from the back up.
  • They are removed from the external hard drive I have, but are they removed form Lightroom or do I need something else checked.

At this time if I move Raw files to Lightroom 7.5 it moves 'deleted files' (that is images that are not in my hard drive).

I am puzzled by this.

Let's stick to Classic first:

It does exactly what you tell it to do.

If only removed from LrC, it's removed from the catalog, and you can not work with it in LrC anymore.

If removed from disk also, it's deleted from the location you either copied it to during import (if using 'Copy' mode) or from the location it was before the import (when using 'Add' mode).

It is NOT removed from the second backup copy that you create during the import.

It doesn't matter if that is an internal or an external drive.

I'm not sure what you mean with the second to last sentence regarding Lr 7.5. Please explain in more details.

Thank you for that. I will have to explore a bit more before I think I'm clear on what is happening.
