Workflow problem between LR and LRC

Hi there,

I have LRC on my Macbook Pro and LR on my ipad pro. I want my workflow to be the following:

  1. Take the ipad pro into the field since it is lighter.
  2. Import the photos from the camera and edit and possibly work on them
  3. Back home synch the photos with LRC on my Macbook.

I encounter the follwoing problems:

As I understand you can only synch collections and not photos. So, how can I edit the photos in the field and synch them including tags and corrections withe my photo collection in LRC? The only way I found so far is to share the photos- or rather copy them as original (CR2) onto an external hard drive and from there import them into LRC. Tags etc. are NOT imported. I suppose there is an error in my workflow. Or do these two apps not synch in the way I want?

Thanx in advance.

Stephan

When you sync from Lightroom Classic to the cloud, you need to place the photos in a synced collection. Lightroom Classic will download all photos that are in the cloud if you enable sync however, but not everything you have done will be synced. Adjustments sync, but keywords (tags) do not sync.

Hi Johan,

thanks, but my problem is the other way around: I want to start on my ipad with lr and then synch to LRC.

Yes, I know. That is why I described that process and said that Lightroom Classic downloads everything that's in the cloud, but does not sync keywords.

I mentioned the other way round too, because you clearly had the wrong idea about syncing when you said "As I understand you can only synch collections and not photos." That is only true when you sync from Lightroom Classic to the cloud, not vice versa. Vice versa everything is synced.

I use this exact workflow all the time and it works perfectly. All you need to do is enable sync on Classic and everything you import on the iPad will automatically appear on your Classic installation. You can even set up the sync in Clasic to file the images in the exact same filing structure you use in Classic when importing there which is super handy. No need to mess with collections or with external drives. This just works. Just import on the iPad and boom they show up in Classic. Only thing that doesn't transfer is keywords but titles and captions transfer fine as do any edits you do on the iPad.
