Z6 Tether not working, no fix planned

I've just spent several hours with Adobe tech support, and they've told me that the Nikon Z6 firmware does not allow tethering to LR.
Given that other people seem to be able to tether a Z6 to LR, I can't help but think that this can't be right. Also, the Z6 is listed as a camera that can tether in LR. Are there other people out there able to tether to LR classic with a Z6?

Adobe support will say anything to get a customer off the line and mark an issue "successfully" closed.
As you know, LR supports tethering the Z 6 since 8.2:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/tethered-camera-support.html
And the Nikon tether SDK, which LR uses, lists the Z 6:

Please copy here the first ten lines from the menu command Help > System Info, so we know exactly which version and platform you're running.

Ok, so i found a way of making it work - i opened Nikon Transfer 2 and located the camera (while logged in as administrator). after this, LR seemed to tether to the camera without problem.
it's as though i needed to go through this process to initialise the computer recorgnising the camera (even though it was showing up in file manager).
thanks for the help!

If it works after running Nikon Transfer then it might be one of the Windows Services not started (assuming you're using Windows).
There are a number of Windows Services that need to be running:
- Windows Image Aquisition (WIA)
- Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
- Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
- RPC Endpoint Mapper
- DCOM Service Process Launcher
- Shell Hardware Detection
I have found that sometimes the RPC Locator (appears in Task Manager Services tab as RpcLocator) isn't running. If so, right-click it (in Task Manager) and choose Start, and see if that makes a difference.
If you want to make it start automatically, in Task Manager -> Services tab click Open Services at the bottom, find RPC Locator, right-click and go to Properties, and set the startup type to Automatic. Or just start it from Task Manager every time you need it.
Hope that helps.
