Just got iphone 6s. One new feature is "Live Photos" which while taking a still picture also takes a 3 sec movie. When imported into Apple's Photos app each Live photo becomes 2 files, a movie file and a normal picture file that can be edited. In lightroom the imported Live photo file is only a movie file, which can"t be edited. Can this be changed in a future update so that importing also gives a normal still picture file and a movie file?

The movie and still files have the same name with different extensions. Lightroom seems to be treating the movies as raw files, and skipping the jpeg files. Worse, it deletes the JPEG files without importing them if you have Move selected in the import settings. For Live Photos, this is a not the behavior I want.

As a workaround, you can check the "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos" option in Settings->General, then start the import over again. This will import both the movie and jpeg files. However, this is not a per-camera setting, so it will also start importing typical RAW+jpeg pairs.

Adam,
Thanks for the tip. It worked! Just had to quit and relaunch LR after changing the settings.

I now get the same 2 files in Lightroom as I did in Photos. Having this setting in LR and potentially importing 2 files for each shot for all my other camera will not be a problem for me as I only shoot Raw files on my Canon 60D.

This is a huge problem for me. I shoot RAW+jpeg on my dslr. There's got to be a way to separate these on a case-by-case basis.

Please support Apple "Live Photos" as soon as possible.

If "Live Photos" are not supported within about 6 months, Lightroom becomes useless for me.
(I also shoot RAW photos with my "real" camera, but about 50% of my photos are shot with the iPhone.)

Also, and this pales in comparison to not being able to edit them, but the thumbnails for the videos are upside down.

I was dismayed to find that this was not fixed in the latest update. I tried changing this setting, but even after restarting these photos still show as MOV+JPEG and the jpeg component can't be edited. PLEASE fix this.

Adobe please add support for Live Photos. Interestingly they import fine using LR mobile on iPhone or iPad - so you can then acces them via shared / cloud collections. The issue is only with desktop version of LR even on Mac

I was also looking for a simple way to import Live Photos into Lr.

I use Lr mobile to auto-import all iPhone photos and videos. Lr mobile seems to treat each Live photo as a normal jpeg, completely ignoring the movie part while importing regular videos without any problems. I also find that there is no problem editing the jpegs (originating from a Live Photo) in either Lr mobile or Lr desktop when they have been uploaded via Lr mobile, a problem Adam mentioned.

Lr desktop does recognise and import all the 0:02s movies from my iPhone if I connect it directly via USB.

While I am happy that I can import them into Lr at all it would be nice if Adobe would add support for both the jpeg and movie part of Live Photos to upload directly through Lr mobile.

I don't mind having the .mov file and the .jpg file as separate files in my catalog, but if I import them at the same time I can't see the .jpg, as it thinks it's just a preview jpg of the movie (like with raw+jpg).

Hey, I was told to post this here instead of the Lightroom Mobile Adobe forum:

From what I understand, Apple's changes in iOS 10 make it easier for developers to integrate live photo support into their apps. I'm curious if Adobe will be updating Lightroom/Lightroom Mobile to support this photo format better? I'm always sad that when I upload my files to Lightroom and then flush my camera roll I'm losing a lot of good information – either that or making it really hard to access. -Quin

Thanks for bring this up. A fix is underway.
We found that the issue appears when you import directly from iPhone.
One workaround is: Copy files to the system using Photo app and then import.

Thanks,
Sunil

Yes please, add support for live photos.
It is now very popular and make sense.
Please make it as fun and nice as it is on iOS but let us access .jpg and .mov separately if we want to do so.

Adobe, do you realize that this "new" picture format is out there for more than one year on that you do not propose a serious support in Lightroom yet ?

What should I do with these live photos ?
Will I ever be able to playback the ones I already imported or shoud I keep waiting to do a correct import after you release an update to support this format ?

Also in a second time, a Live_photo to GIF or MOV export is important to share them, what do you think ?

Please give us a feedback.
Thank you.

Hi again,
Just imported a few photos, videos and Live_photos.
There is a bug somewhere with the videos of the Live_photos ( iPhone 7 plus, iOS 10.0.2, LR 2015.6.1) but I do not know where.
In the finder all the videos are working fine.
In the import windows and in LR, some of the videos from Live_photos are bugged. Normal videos are not. I tryed to download from the phone again, same result.
The screenshot shows 1 Live_photo ok and 2 broken ones.

Markinho,
What happens when you import those files? Do they get imported?
See if you can send those problematic files to us.

Thanks,
Sunil

Sunil, thank you for your email.

I sent you a link to my Dropbox with the 6 files from the screenshot.
The files are all imported.

I have a set of 31 Live_photos ( 62 files ).
From this set, 7 videos are displayed in green, already in the import window.
The others 31-7=24 videos are displayed correctly in LR.

In the finder, all the videos are correct.
I can play them also, no problem.

Downloading the files from the phone again will have no change.

Let me know if I can help you further.

Thanks.

In Lightroom 6.8, on Mac, when you connect iPhone directly to the system and import, you can import only the JPEG file.
On Mac, a workaround is to, select "JPEG files next to the raw files as separate photos" in the Preference.
Importing of Live photos directly from iPhone is supported on Windows.
We are working on the Mac issue.

Thanks,
Sunil
