Lightroom: Two key tethering features

In two screen mode, limit all tethering operations to the second screen while leaving the main screen so normal Library operation can continue.

The intention is that the photographer should be able to use the second screen to trigger the shutter, set presets, and review the image, while on the main screen an "Art Director" can review and select images almost as if tethering is not happening (new images would be available but the main screen wouldn't jump to the just-shot frame).

Secondly, allow a transparent overlay image to permit shooting into a magazine layout.

Also, enable the camera's Live View function.

Even if you can't render it on screen, at least don't disable it on the camera's LCD.

I do macro work that requires the critical focus I get via Live View.

I'd agree, that's a good request. I've heard of all sorts of workarounds for the lack of a transparent overlay, including taping acetate over the screen, but a built in tool would be much more professional. It would also be useful for those who will end up cropping to a different ratio, rather than having to guess.

Regarding the first request, you can go to File>Tethered Capture and turn off "Auto Advance Selection." It's not exactly what you're asking for, but it's something you can do right now that will get you part of the way there.

Regarding the Live View option, displaying the live view within Lightroom is a good feature request. But we are not deliberately turning off the Live View on the camera. Unfortunately, this is a limitation of Nikon cameras. Live View on Canon cameras does work while tethering with Lightroom.

I tried Live View on my Canon 5DII a couple of times unsuccessfully and gave up. I'll have to try again. Is there a certain setting in LR or the camera I need to be aware of for LV to work?

Thanks Benjamin - that helps a little on the AD side. Assuming LiveView remains a problem, what would help is if the second screen could be "locked" on the most recent shot so the photographer can review/shoot to the layout. Maybe there is some permutation I've overlooked but at present it looks like one use the second screen grid and choose the image to show on that screen - but doing so changes the main screen.

As far as tethered shooting goes, what I'd like to see, is complete camera control.
I grabbed a trial copy of the Canon version of DSLR Remote Pro over at breezesys.com.

Unfortunatly, it won't run on the Laptop I use for tethered shooting, Lightroom however, DOES.
So I had my brother-in-law install the trial on his Laptop, and had a look at what it can do.

I can set up everything from the Laptop.
eg. I go to shoot some small product photos, generally, I don't have to move the camera,
so I set it up on my tripod, and can from there on do the entire shoot without touching the camera,
(unless I have forgotten to turn off the auto power-off feature).

If I recall correctly, the only commonly used thing on the camera that cannot be set using the Laptop, is the zoom factor.

So what I'd like to see in Lightroom, is the SAME functionality as the DSLR Remote Pro software.
If it did have that, I'd even go out and buy it again...
...the moment my financial situation got better!

I am not native English speaker though, but as a rule i comprehend well :)
"Layout" usually refers to the arrangement of pics and text on the page. What does it have in common with the tethered shooting?

Here layout means the layout of a page - eg a magazine. The overlay is a transparent image for the page title etc, letting you shoot directly into the layout required for the page.
