I want to reduce the size of the navigator window so I can see more of the menus below it while working on my laptop. It's crazy that LR doesn't support this.

Perhaps just keep it completely collapsed?
The only time I find it useful is when I'm in Library or Develop Loupe view, and hovering the mouse over a thumbnail in the filmstrip shows me a somehwat bigger thumbnail in the Navigator. But I keep Navigator collapsed almost all the time.

Interesting, I use Navigator all the time. E.g. using the healing tool, Ill be zoomed into a portion of the image, and LR inevitably grabs the sample from something way offscreen, and not at all what I want it to sample from. I use the Navigator to jump over to that section of the photo quickly.
