P: Ability to lock photos to prevent further editing

LEGEND ,

I'm a relatively newbie to Lightroom and I think it is fantastic.

It does occur to me that pros who have been using Lightroom for a while understand all the issues about selections, settings, copying, pasting, synchronising etc etc.

Like many things in life the people who do things almost as second nature forget what it was like to be a beginner.

The one thing that has surprised me about lightroom is that I cannot find a way of indicating "I am happy with this - I just want to lock it to ensure I don't damage, amend or delete it" through my own incompetence.

The important point for many of us is lockability of develop settings, to prevent accidental edits to finished photos.

Being able to filter out finished images would be a useful added bonus.

I think we might all at times have accidentally edited or deleted a photo and not realised until days, weeks or years later....so this simple lock could be very easily implemented.....

And to be able to search for such images surely is just a few lines of code? that would help so many people?

Now that Adobe have spent 2 years working on improving what is under the bonnet, they need to seriously work on Usability. This is a simple example of a small feature having major usability benefits.

I have a whole bunch of good suggestions to make, but I am not going to put the energy or effort into documenting or describing them, if I like this one it takes 4 years and still no progress.

If Adobe are serious about usability then I am happy to share my ideas. The usability of the entire Creative Suite is seriously below par.

I would like to be able to lock files to prevent any changes, including changes to metadata and develop settings. I sometimes accidentally press a key that makes a change to a file (such as changing the rating) and don't realize until later when it's too late to undo the change/ I also find that Lightroom is sometimes slow to respond to a keyboard shortcut, and I start typing thinking I'm in a text box, and I'm not, and all sorts of damage is being done. Being able to lock files would avoid these unintended changes. An easy-to-use lock/unlock icon and/or command would be great!

What issue are you seeing with the spelling checker?

Hi Blaine,

Could you tell us about the problem that you're having?  The only current issue for the spell-checker that I'm aware of is that there's a problem with characters in a certain Unicode range.  Otherwise, this is news to us and all the other threads with spell-check issues turned out to be user error.

Thanks,
David

In Photoshop CC 2015, you can no longer highlight text and right click (or control click) to spell check. Worked fine in older versions of PS. This seems to be a bug in Photoshop CC 2015 that’s at least 3-4 months old.

Howdy Steven,

We've actually been working on providing this fix for our users in the next release.  Look for it soon as well as other enhancements to the spell checker.

Thanks,
David

Thanks for that. All I got from support was something about nobody else having the issue.

I'm seeing this on both computers I use.

Great idea to have another tag that says FINAL. This indicates a version given to a customer.

This was fixed in the latest release of Photoshop, 15.1, for both Mac and Windows.

Thanks,
