When Importing Raw files from SD-card, the "don`t import suspected duplicates" feature doesnt work, if I had converted to DNG before.

Scenario: I shoot 100 photos in Sony Raw ARW. I import them onto my notebook. 10 files i want to keep and i convert them to DNG to archive the files. Later i shoot 100 photos more. For backup reasons i have not deleted the photos from the SD card yet. I put the SD card with now 200 photos into my notebook and check the box for "don`t import suspected duplicates" and Lightroom will import 110 photos, instead of 100. 10 photos will be duplicates, but in ARW and DNG.

Moving to discussions:

This is as-designed behavior.

For an image in your catalog to be considered a duplicate, it must:

  1. Have the Same File Name and extension
  2. Have the Same Capture Date/Time Stamp
  3. Be the same physical size on disk.

Your second import of the ten previously imported images fails on items 1 and 3.

Understood, thanks for your quick response!
Can you move it to Feature Requests then?

While I haven't tested it with Copy as DNG, I know this works under a Rename Scenario.

Import your images as raw to Lightroom without converting to DNG.
After import, convert to DNG from inside of Lightroom
Import the photos again - they should be recognized as duplicates.

When you rename a photo on import, it comes into Lightroom as the new name. When you do it after import, it tracks both the old and new names.  It would be worth a try for your workflow to move the DNG Conversion to after import.

Thanks!
But this is already my workflow.

"Import your images as raw to Lightroom without converting to DNG.
After import, convert to DNG from inside of Lightroom
Import the photos again - they should be recognized as duplicates. "

The "Don´t import suspected duplicates" functionality doesnt work in this scenario.

Maybe it would work when i convert to DNG during import, but this takes to long and is no option.

If that is the case, I will kick this to Feature Requests and modify the title.
