Best workflow for importing scanned page with multiple images?

Someone sent me some scanned pages with multiple images on each page. I am trying to figure out the best practices for adding them to my library?

I imported the scans, then made virtual copies of them to crop and separate each image. So, if a page has three images on it, I made three virtual copies and cropped each one to a different image.

The problem with this is that when I go to fine tune the newly created virtual copies, like when I try to adjust horizon, it reverts back to the original multi image page, not just the cropped area. Hope that makes sense?

This made me realize there is probably a smarter way to deal with a situation like this.

Virtual copies are not individual image files so if you have created three virtual copies with different crops you still have only one image file. The virtual copies are only represented as data stored in the Catalog file.

I would suggest work with the original file apply a crop and export a jpeg or tiff and save with a specific name, repeat to create the second and third image copies.

This is much easier to do in Photoshop, which also has a better and more accurate crop tool than Lightroom.

It also allows you to adjust the crop at 100% view.

For a page with three images, first duplicate the file (Image > Duplicate), and close the original, you probably want to keep it.

Then make two more duplicates, and you can now crop each of the three images from the three duplicates.

Save the images, then import them in Lightroom.
