This is probably just coincidence, not caused by the upgrade. Try starting Lightroom Classic while holding the option key. You will get a dialog where you can choose to "test the integrity of this catalog" which in some cases can repair your catalog file. Also, you need to be at Lightroom Classic V10 in order to run on Big Sur. Older versions have compatibility issues.

I did indeed go that route - no luck, unfortunately. Also, I am fully upgraded on Lightroom.
I ended up activating a backup, and everything is working fine now. A good lesson in making backups as frequently as possible!

This sometimes happens so indeed a very good idea to make sure you have backups

So for those of us who did not do that how do I proceed. In my case I had the latest version of Lightroom through the Photoshop/Lightroom program that is $9.99 a month or something close to that. When I updated my 3-1/2 year old iMac to Big Sur is when the problems began. What do I do now? The issue on mine is whenever I try to reinstall Lightroom Classic it loads then - it freezes up. Then I have to do a force quit. PLease help.

(REPOST to insert image)
I upgraded to BIG SUR on my 2020 iMac.
When I open Lightroom Classic, I get an error that says (image attached)
Unexpected error opening catalog
The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error
Choose a different catalog
Try Again
Quit
Anyone else experiencing this?
