I have a setup, using Lightroom classic, where I use one catalog for the current year, on my desktop computer and all previous years are on a different, external disk, using the same catalog for all previous years.

Today I was unable to access the catalog on the external disk. I have several others there and they all failed. The error message:

"Unexpected error opening catalog - The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error"

The last time I accessed this catalog and worked with it, was on June 1st 2021. It is rather critical to me, to get access to this catalog, since it contains thousands of edited images and I have a customer who just ordered a number of images ...

The first thing I would suggest would be to copy the catalog to the same folder as the working catalog on your computer hard drive and double-click on it from that folder to see if it will run from that location. You won't have to do anything about relocating the images, simply copy the catalog to the folder and give that a try.

Thanks Jim,

It turned out that I have some kind of fault on my external disk, which was anything but easy to diagnose. I'll have to have it fixed and reload from my external backup.'
