Catalogue cannot be opened

Hi

After it crashed I am getting the "LR catalogue cannot be opened because another application already has it open".  I have followed the instructions to locate the locked file but it isn't in any of the LR files on my computer and although the message says "if it is there" there are no instructions on what to do if it isn't.

Has anyone got any ideas please.

Thanks Lynda

By default it should be in a subfolder named lightroom located on your hdd your user a/c > pictures/ my pictures > lightroom, it will have the same name as your catalog and will end .lrcat.lock extension. just delete the lock file and not anything else.

See the screen capture from the Lightroom subfolder on my iMac. The .lock file should only be there when Lightroom is open and it should get automatically deleted when Lightroom is closed. Your crash would have aborted that process.

Re: Catalogue cannot be opened

Hi

It was in Downloads. Followed the original instructions and all restored
now. I wouldn't have thought to look in Downloads.

Re: Catalogue cannot be opened

If you didn't find the .lock file, then you are looking in the wrong folder with the wrong Lightroom catalog. Please search your computer USING YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM'S SEARCH FEATURE and find all files whose name ends with .LRCAT (might be lower case), and then delete the .lock file if there is one in that folder and try opening the catalog. If that's not the catalog, keep going using the search until all .LRCAT files have been tried.

Re: Catalogue cannot be opened

Hi

Found it thank you, it was in Downloads. Followed the instructions and all
up and running. Thanks again for your prompt response, I was really
worried that I'd lost it. I wouldn't have dreamt of looking there for it.

Re: Catalogue cannot be opened

It was. Is this unusual? I found it after you suggested that I searched
via my computer.

Re: Catalogue cannot be opened

"downloads" is not a good place for the catalog.

I would move it to someplace more appropriately named, like "/Lr_Catalog" off the root of the drive.
