Develop Module/Detail Tab preview thumbnail window not updating

I've looked for previous reports of this issue and I haven't found any, so I'm hoping somebody can either help solve this issue with me or point me to a prior solution.  🙂 

 

I am setting up Lightroom Classic (LrC), v9.3 Build 202005281810-476e492c, on a factory new Surface Pro 7 running Windows 10 Home with all updates applied and PC rebooted.

I've attached a couple screen captures to illustrate the problem.

Symptoms (all in the Develop module's Detail tab):

  1. Preview thumbnail does not show same 1:1 resolution as the main preview. (See image 1 attached.)
  2. Update sharpening amount by as little as 1 integer.
  3. The preview thumbnail is not updated (while the main window does show the effect of the change).
  4. Move the mouse over the thumbnail window. Observe the thumbnail is now blank. (See image 2 attached.)
  5. Switch to any other image.
  6. Behavior is the same.
  7. Switch back to the original image. Behavior is the same.
  8. Reinstall LR. Behavior is the same.

 

I've confirmed all Preferences and Catalog settings are the same as another system I have that is functioning correctly.

 

I have restored the Surface Pro 7 to factory condition, re-applied all Windows updates, applied the latest device drivers from the manufacturer, re-installed LrC, and the problem persists. 

 

Running in Windows Safe Mode, the problem persists.

Any help or pointers is appreciated!

A few easy-to-test long shots:

 

- Delete the Camera Raw cache (Preferences > Performance Camera Raw Cache Settings > Purge Cache).

 

- Turn on the graphics processor by setting Preferences > Performance Use Graphics Processor to Auto. (Your System Info shows it's currently off, which is usually "safer" than turning it on, but you never know...)

 

- Temporarily set the display profile to a standard sRGB profile:

There have been a couple of previous reports that the Surface Pro 7 comes with a default display profile assigned that's incompatible with LR.  This would be a strange incompatibility I hadn't seen reported before, but it's easy to test.

The solution was to set the default display profile to sRGB. The factory default for my Surface Pro 7 was "Enhanced." Once I set it to sRGB (using the guidance in the link provided by JohnRellis), all is now right again in the world of LrC!  🙂

Fascinating. I found a previous post about the Surface Pro 7 enhanced display profiles causing much different symptoms, green videos:
