Against All Photograpohs under Catalogue in the left hand pane it says 118081.

At the bottom under Import and Export buttons it says All photographs.  117227 of 118081 photos.

I don't have any filters on at all and no missing photographs in the catalogue.

Can anyone explain the discrepancy ?

Thanks.

You probably have some images in collapsed stacks.

If you want to SEE all your photographs, even the ones in collapsed stacks without messing up your collapsed/expanded stacks, you can creat a smart collection the fits ALL the photos. Smart collections show photos even is collapsed stackes.  A simple one is the following.

John

I should have made my smart collection comment clearer. Expanding the stacks is the "standard" way to do it but if you have some stacks expanded and others collapsed for some workflow reason the command messes that up and it's not easy to get back to your stack settings.  That's why I suggesred the smart collection route
