Enhance Details broken - All-black preview and final render

Hello all.

I was super excited about the new Enhance Details feature rolling out today.  However, something about it refuses to work for me.  When I select the feature on an image, the preview pane only shows a completely black pane on the "Enhanced" version.  Furthermore, when I click the "Enhance" button, processor and GPU rev up and the progress bar moves, but ultimately it only renders a completely black DNG.  This seems to happen on any photo in my collection.  I have verified that I am updated to the correct version of windows, and that I am working on a CR2 RAW file.  Screenshots:

My biggest complaint is, it consumes all of my system resources and never produces anything.  Have to do a hard reboot to take back control of my machine.

Hi all,

Sorry for the black images when using Enhance Details.

Trends I'm noticing among these system infos are NVIDIA cards (except one Intel) and driver 481.81. Wondering if you try another, previous, NVIDIA driver if that makes a difference?

Perhaps 417.71? - Drivers | GeForce https://www.geforce.com/drivers

Anybody interested in trying that out and testing if it makes a difference for you?

Hi Pete - I was actually having this issue previous to updating my graphics drivers, too.  If I recall, I was using 416.18, and have had the issue on both the old and updated drivers.

I can't tell if Nvidia thinks that driver works on my card.  I'd consider trying it.  Why do you think that one works?

Thanks for the info that previous driver versions aren't fixing it.

Next what we'd like to collect for the engineering team are some DXDiag logs. Here are some instructions:

Use the DirectX Diagnostic tool that comes with Windows called dxdiag. 

Basic instructions:

  1. Do the Run command from the Start menu (Winkey + R)
  2. Type dxdiag and press Enter
  3. A small dialog will appear on the screen with some info.  If you press the Save All Information button you can save out a text file containing detailed information regarding the DirectX setup on the user's machine.
    1. User-added image
  4. If you could share the text files with me directly, email them to petgreen [at] adobe [dot] com. I'll pass them onto the engineering team.

As a secondary suggestion while we look into it, if you install the NVIDIA drivers and perform a Clean Install, that would help with the troubleshooting as well.

  1. Uninstall the installed NVIDIA driver
  2. Perform a new install, and Select Custom Install, then Perform Clean Install (There's a checkbox).
    1. This process will completely erase all previous NVIDIA drivers and install the latest version.

I always do a clean install of Nvidia drivers. Tried using full size RAW files from my Canon 7D.

Looking more like a laptop issue ... my tower is running fine with "Enhanced Detail" although my demo machine/ASUS laptop ( i7 with 720M GPU) has the problem everyone is complaining about ....

Photoshop Family Customer Community is an Adobe site.  It is frequented more by Adobe staff than here.  I don't know why it requires a different login.  Perhaps because it uses specific forum site software.

I'm another with the same black DNG file.  My computer had not updated to 8109, so I did that.  I turned the GPU on an off in Lightroom.  I updated the Nividia driver on an ASUS gamer laptop.  Still the same.  Tried both Panasonic and Olympus RAWs.

The latest driver for the GTX670M is 391.35 from March 2018.   I'd try another but nothing is as high as 417.71.
