gradient filter jumps off edge of image

I'm editing a raw file in LR and I have done some distorion corrections and some exposer adjustment. Then I went to add a gradient filter when I move the filter away from the center the filter jumps so that I can only see one of the three lines. The center dot is gone as well. Has anyone ever had this happen? How can I fix this? Thanks

I am on a Mac, both the OS and aAdobe updates are current on a "newer" MBP if any of that matters.

At the bottom of the  detail view in the develop module do you have Show Edit Pins: Always on? If not you may  want to toggle through those settings to  see if it helps with the target tools.
