I just started with Lightroom Classic and can't even set preferences! Many of the menus look like the attached screenshot...the top half of the text is missing! This is a new high-end Windows laptop and the symptom is the same on my laptop display and external monitor display. LRScreenShot.jpg

If in Windows you are using display scaling, try turning that off.

Have rebooted dozens of times. I am a new LR user and the sysptoms have always been this way from the beginning, each and every time I use it, and on many different (but not all) menus.

Please post your system information as lightroom reports it. Click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that info in a reply, preferably all info from first line down to just past plug-in info, info after plug-in info not probative.

Especially interested in GPU info.

I have the laptop set to 250% scaling (the Windows Recommended setting) 3840x2160.

I have the external monitor set to 100% scaling (the Windows Recommended setting) 2560x1440.

I am using the external monitor for Lightroom.

EDIT/Following probably does not apply, as you are at 100% on monitor displaying LRC

I am not a fan of MS Windos scaling. I have had issues in various apps, May have been fixed.

As I can actualy control my display resolution in WIndows (as opposed to in MACOS where you cannot) I do not scale, I alter my display resolution as I see fit. With a primary concern being able to read the text. Lightrooms font contro sucks, so I general run at a resolution I like.

Now, yes, scaling can be a work around to getting fonts to behave

And yes, You migt have a huge 4K, 5K monitor and you want to somehow use all that and still see the words.

But try without scaling, the heck with MS reccomends.

Thing is to get LRC working.

Followup, checked my settings, Scaling is 100%, but this is a desktop and only one display.

Graphics Processor Info:
DirectX: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (26.21.14.4145

So NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU driver is v441.45

Checking at NVIDIA latest is v442.59

Not so out of date, but consider updating AND while yuou do so, select Custom, as to accomplish a clean install.

I suspect, the driver version is not the issue, I have no idea if your existing install needs to be deleated as part of the install, but should not hurt.

Not sure what you mean by "...if your existing install needs to be deleated as part of the install,..."

as this is the first and only LRC that I have ever installed on any PC.

I suspect its a display scaling issue. I need to get LRC working AND still be able to read text from all applications, incl LRC. If I have to change setting each time I run LRC, that's not acceptable. I'll keep fiddling with it.

I'll update the Nvidia driver too, but I agree, it's likely not that.

I VERY MUCH APPRECIATE YOU ALL HELPING ME!  I really want to get into LRC...bought a 730 page book, now that I'm stuck at home, as soon as I get past this menu text issue. 🙂

Was refering to the GPU driver. A normal install replaces existing files, it might not delete old crap from earlier installs thst went wrong or got corrupted. A clean install of a GPU driver (at least for NVIDIA) deals with thst possibility.

I'm going to close this topic. Altering the scaling has brought back the full menu text. It has drawbacks for other applications; I'll keep tinkering until I find an acceptable comprimise. Thank you for your help.

In the LR Preferences, Tab "Interface", you also have a "Font size" option. You might try to play with it.
