I am having performance issues with the latest version of lightroom classic. It takes 2.5 - 3 minutes to function normally with messages "not responding" and screen turning opaque for some seconds before I can use the programm.

You certainly wouldn't want to use my computer as a benchmark. It's an old HP Pavilion desktop, about eight years old, just 8 GB RAM, won't accept anymore. LrC takes about 20 seconds to load and be ready to use. I'm using Windows 10 Home Premium. Unfortunately for you, I'm not a computer tech, so I wouldn't attempt to tell you where to begin to isolate the issues on your computer.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the reply, my laptop is also 7 years old and has two SSD drives, 16GB Ram, 2.6 GHz i7
processor and NVidia 2GB Grafics card, so should be fine for LrC.

Logitech's Logioptions plugin is poorly written and often causes slow startup. Logitech utilities install the plugin silently without your knowledge.
Go to File > Plug-in Manager, scroll the list of plugins. If you see Logioptions, select it, and then in the Status panel, click Disable. Restart LR.

I am having the same issue. Consistently not responding, the screen blinks after every click. I sit and wait after every slider adjustment. It is a brand new computer, new install of Lightroom.. PS and Bridge plus all other software is working fine. It is not a graphics driver issue either since I have that unchecked and still the same problem.

I've only been using LrC three weeks but I'm wondering if my old stand alone version of Lightroom
still installed on my PC is having an adverse affect on the new programm.

Having a standalone LR version installed should not affect LrC unless you are low on disk space. How much free space do you have on your C: drive?

Steveanton, your GPU is very low performance and no support for DirectX 12. Disable the GPU in LrC at Edit> Preferences> Performance 'Use Graphics Processor' set to Off. Close all applications, reboot your system, and try again.

Hi Todd,
I switched off the GPU and rebooted but still no change in startup performance.
The C drive has 260GB free

How many image files are in your catalog and are you syncing them to a OneDrive or Drobox folder? Also remove any USB connected devices such as a phone, card reader, etc. and try restarting LrC again.

Catalogue has 17500 images and they ae not being synched. The original image files are all stored
on D. drive and LrC is on C. drive. Disconnected the usb devices but LrC still takes 2 minutes to function normally.

No solution I'm afraid, but this is the reason I removed 10.1 and went back to 10.0. It looks as if 10.1.1 hasn't resolved the issue.

Since your system drive is SSD you can turn off indexing on that drive, which may fix the issue. In Windows File Explorer right click on the C: drive, select 'Properties,' and uncheck 'Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed...' as shown below. It will take some time for it to complete the process. Once completed restart LrC and see if it launches faster.

Initially there was a faster load of 45 seconds then after closing down and restarting
a fourth time, LrC has decided to slack off again and takes 90 seconds to fully run.
Not responding, and misty screen again.

Try optimizing and integrity check the LrC Catalog by going to Edit> Catalog Settings> General> Backup catalog> When Lightroom next exits. Make sure both of the below settings are checked. I do this using the below settings at least once a week and after every major editing session or import and use 'Skip this time' when not needed.

I don't have those two check boxes on my version of LrC

Sorry, those selections only appear when you close LrC. Set the LrC Catalog setting for 'Back up catalog' to 'Every time Lightroom exits' and click OK. Then close LrC and check the two options shown above in the popup dialouge box. It will take a few minutes to complete.
