Hi there! Is there any way to "convert" XMP Lightroom presets using the latest Color Grading (October 2020 release) for older versions of Lightroom before that update using XMP presets? – Or alternatively, if I save a preset in the current version of Lightroom Classic without checking the "Color Grading" boxes, is it compatible with older versions using the XMP preset format?
Thanks
-Jan

XMP presets created in LR 10 are in general compatible with versions LR 7.2 and later. If you want to make a preset with Color Grading settings that's compatible with the Split Toning of previous versions, see here:

Thanks so much and thanks for the link. But the article states the other scenario: Using old "Split Toning"-presets with the new Color Grading option. I was looking for the other way around: To use presets with "Color Grading" in older versions of Lightroom where this feature was not available. Are these "translated" back to the Split Toning module?

Here are the relevant details from the section of that article, "Split Tone compatibility":
That article explains that the Color Grading settings include the old Split Toning settings (shadow and highlight hue and saturations) and new settings introduced with Color Grading (all the midtone controls, all the Global controls, and all the luminance controls).
A preset containing just the old Split Toning settings will look the same in older versions of LR. But if a preset contains the new Color Grading settings, they will be ignored by older versions.
So to make a preset that's compatible with older versions: "If you want to work with only Split Toning controls, you can do this yourself as well. From the defaults, simply move Blending to 100 and then only make edits to the shadow and highlight hue and saturations. This will give the identical results that you would get from the old Split Toning interface." A preset made from these settings will appear the same when used in older versions of LR.
There is no way to make a preset containing the new settings (all the midtone controls, all the Global controls, and all the luminance controls) and have the preset work as expected in older versions of LR.
I think the best you could do is to use the Export LUT plugin to create a LUT from the desired Color Grading settings and then use Camera Raw to make a creative profile from that LUT.
