Image changes when transferred from Library to Develop

Lightroom Classic 10.2 Image selected in Library Module, choose Develop Module, randomly changes to another image in the Catalog. Have shut down and restarted. Problem persists. A similar thing happens in Develop Module.  Try to use any adjustment (say AUTO in Basic Tab) changes to another random image. LR is currently unusable.

Try this: Go to Preferences - Performance and purge the Camera Raw cache (note there are two 'Purge Cache' buttons).
