Is there a way to transfer my catalog from one pc to another without losing edits?

I am recieving a brand new custom built pc tower and I want to know if there is a way once I get that if I can transfer my current catalog of edited/unedited photos to it from my current PC? Do I just save the cataolog from my desktop to a external hardrive and then upload it to the new one when I get it or is there another way it can be done? Thanks for any responses.
