My Lightroom 5 app crashes indiscriminately - when editing photos, adjust hue, exporting files, upon startup, etc. I checked my account to see if there was an upgrade option to Lightroom 6, but it doesn't appear that there is.What the heck is going on??

High Sierra is the problem. LR 5 does not run properly under High Sierra.

Your choices are:

  • Upgrade Lightroom (pay money) to get either LR 6.14 or the subscription to LR Classic CC
  • Downgrade your operating system to Sierra

Thank you for letting me know about High Sierra. Would installing Lightroom CC mean that there is a separate program on my computer, outside of Lightroom 5.7.1? Or would it just replace the old Lightroom? Any information you could provide (as to what an update or new subscription would entail) would be very helpful.

The suggestion is to upgrade to Lightroom Classic CC and not Lightroom CC. This is a separate (new to you) program. All of your work in Lightroom 5.7.1 should also upgrade to a new Lightroom Classic CC catalog. The subscription in the US is $9.99 per month (plus tax).

My apologies for my ignorance, but I have been looking around on the Adobe website and I can't find the path to buy Lightroom Classic CC.... all it shows is an option for Lightroom CC.

To subscribe to Lightroom Classic CC, it's actually part of what is called the "Creative Cloud Photography Plan", which also includes Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC (which you don't want to use, it is a different product, it is a store-your-photos-in-the-cloud product, it is not the successor to what we all know as desktop Lightroom, despite the similar name). And I believe this link works for people in the US, I have no idea if it works outside the US.

jkost.com has numerous Lightroom Classic, Lightroom CC, Lightroom Mobile and Photoshop videos.

Click the 'Lightroom' menu near top of page.

You can also 'search' YouTube for things like 'Lightroom Creative Cloud' or 'Lightroom Classic CC'

You launch Lightroom Classic CC, it should ask if you want to upgrade your previous catalog, you say YES. If it doesn't ask, use the Lightroom Classic CC command File->Open Catalog and select your LR 5.7.1 catalog file.

Hi. I can't open Lightroom (or if it opens it quits unexpectedly) but I've got Lightroom 6 on High Sierra. Is it the same issue here? Do I have to downgrade to Sierra? Thanks

You can update your LR 6 (it's free) to 6.14 and it should run properly on High Sierra. Download Photoshop Lightroom

Give us details. What is your operating system version NUMBER? What actions in LR trigger the crashes? Is it just LR that crashes or the whole computer that crashes? And tell us any other information that is relevant

Hi, I have similar problem. LR 5.7.1 is newly re-installed on my Windows 10 PC and it crashes when I try to import new photos or add a new folder. The old photos seems to be possible to handle.
