Lightroom 6.14 crashes when using Face Identification

I have the same problem as others have posted. I am using Lightroom Version 6.14 standalone verion. Any time my people tab is opened then the program crashes. I'm turned off GPU in my preferences and didn't work. I've uninstall and reinstalled and that didn't work.

 

I have a Windows 10 64 bit machine with 16 GB of RAM. Intel i7 core @ 360 GHz.

The sad thing is this was working fine until just recently, as many others have posted. I'm not interested in a subscription model for something I already have and am satisfied with.

If it was working, but now not, then it is not a Adobe problem as nothing has been changed in your copy of Lr6

 

So, what changed outside of Lr6?

Camera Raw does not affect Lightroom 6. If you want to know if the Nvidia driver is the problem, install an earlier version. Or turn off the Graphics Processor in the Lightroom 6 preferences.

I turned off the GPU acceleration option and I still have the issue. 

 

Time to check for other recent changes. One would be the Windows 20h2 cumulative update released last Tuesday.

My 6.14 version has also suddently started crashing. In fact, I got into a death-spiral as Lightroom would partially launch then crash, again and again. No way to get back to my photos until I figured out how to resolve this.  Here is how I dealt with it:  1) Press 'CRTL' when you click the Lightroom app.  2) Choose "create a new catalog ..." at the bottom of the window, 3) Create an arbitrarily named TEST catalog anywhere on your computer. 4) When lightroom opens your new TEST catalog, choose grid view or any other view other than the people view, 5) Quit lightroom, 6) Now press 'CRTL' again when you click the Lightroom app and choose your regular catalog (not the TEST) one.  You should now be back to where you were.  Don't use the people feature until someone figures out the cause and the fix or it will cause a crash again.

A number of people are reporting that face recognition crashes LR 6.  See this bug report in the official Adobe feedback forum:

There is some evidence that LR 6's license for the third-party face-recognition technology may have expired.  (And if it has, it's very unlikely Adobe will patch LR 6.)

I just deleted the C: \ Program Files \ Adobe \ Adobe Lightroom \ CIT folder and lightroom stopped crashing. I cannot recognize new faces, but I can manage faces already recognized and can manually point and name new faces.

I also noticed that LR 6.14 not only crashed when switching to face recognition mode, but also when creating a virtual copy of an image, if the image has detected faces tagged to it.

Dear all!

I have just the same problem. Lightroom starts normally, just until I press O for face recognition, then Lightroom shuts off. The idea with the expired 3rd party face recognition software motivated me to test it.

I just set the system date to a date before December 7th 2020 restarted Lightroom and it worked fine even with face recognition.
