Lightroom cannot read RAW images

I just bought a new Canon 6D Mark II and when I try to import my photos into Lightroom it says "preview unavailable for this file." I tried updating Lightroom and Camera RAW with no success. Photoshop can open the RAW files but I prefer to use Lightroom. I was previously using a Canon Rebel T6i and my Lightroom could read the RAWs.

Another point that could be relevant is that originally my Windows laptop couldn't read the new RAW files either and I had to install their RAW image extension to view them.

Then you are way, way, way, behind in your updates.

You should be using Lr-CLassic v9.2.1

You may need to update your Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App and allow it to update your Adobe programs.

"new Canon 6D Mark II"  New?

The 6D Mark II  has been supported in Lightroom since 2015 versions Lr-CC-2015.12 or Lr6.12

Report your version of Lightroom as shown in  MENU: Help > System Info.

If your Lightroom version supports your camera there may be other problems ocurring (eg. faults with camera memory card)

Regards. My System: Lightroom-Classic 13.2 Photoshop 25.5, ACR 16.2, Lightroom 7.2, Lr-iOS 9.0.1, Bridge 14.0.2, Windows-11.

Technically, there isn't a "CC" version anymore. There is Lightroom Classic, which is the traditional Lightroom that stores everything locally that has been around for more than a decade. And there is Lightroom (which some refer to as Lightroom CC) which stores all images in the cloud. The question we need answered is which version are you actually using? The exact numbered version are you referring to? We don't want to hear references like the CC version, or the latest version, or the cloud version, or the creative cloud version. What is the actual number of the version you are using?
