Hi out there.
URGENT LIGHTROOM - PHOTGRAPHIC HELP REQUIRED
I have a couple of questions for all you "Lightroom - LRC" experts.
1. Initially I create a Catalogue file on an apple MAC at school. This is stored on my mobile backup drive. It also has all the files I am working on. Great. Drive home.
2. At home I now open my Laptop windows 10.
3. Plug in the backup drive and open the same catalogue file
on the PC.
4. Lightroom opens.
5. In the library module. It is saying the hard drive is "offline"
Grey Icon.
I can see the files but when I go to open them it is saying . Nope cant Find.
6. OK I so I create another new catalogue file .
Import all the files.
7. Now I can see the drive has a green icon. for the new file
8. All good.
9. I go back to school and use the old catalogue file.
Everything is there on The apple MAC .
9. My question is. Do I have to create a new catalogue file
at home after each session that I have attended at school.
If I open the second catalogue file. ie from 6 above.
It isnt up to date. Why doesnt lightroom update
or do I need to import the new files I have worked on from school
to the second catalogue file.
Frustrating
Another question
Do Apple mac and PC created catalogue files not talk to each other.
I would really like some help...

Thanks Steve T.

I fear you have made a mistake in Step 6, Steve.

Are you seeing the dreaded exclamation mark in Grid View (as you mention in Step 5, line 3?)

I would not personally keep Catalog files and image files on the same removable media BTW .. .. ..

Thanks Tony. I think my problem though is that I need to remap the files and folders on my home PC laptop.

The green "Online " icon then works. Or

Create a new catalogue file every time I work from home.

@Steve Thewwrote:

I think my problem though is that I need to remap the files and folders on my home PC laptop.

Yes, this is unfortunately needed in your case each time you move the catalog from one operating system to another operating system. The instructions are here: www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm In particular, see Figure 4.

Another option is to use relative paths in your catalog, which then eliminates the need to remap the folders, see the last response here: https://feedback.photoshop.com/conversations/lightroom-classic/lightroom-ability-to-use-relative-pat...
