Lightroom Classic and macOS Big Sur/Apple Silicon

Apple announced they're moving the Mac platform away from Intel CPUs and to their own chips, like in iPhones or iPads. They even demoed Lightroom and Photoshop working on these new Macs. What they didn't show was Lightroom Classic. Can we take that as a sign that Classic will not be ported to the new infrastructure? I'm in the market for a new Mac, but LR Classic is one of my most used applications. If it doesn't make the switch, I better look at my existing options rather than wait for the new machines.

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but I searched all across the forums and couldn't find anything.

Thanks

André

We're mostly customers like you. Therefore, we know as much about Adobe's future plans for LrC as you do.

Over on the official Lightroom Feedback site, an Adobe rep has posted a reply marked Official Response

“The team is working on a native version of Lightroom Classic for Apple Silicon, and it will be released next year. We're also committed to continuing support for Intel-based Macs.”

The same response has been posted by different Adobe employees on sites such as Reddit.

The keynote video?! Note: They only showed Lightroom, not Lightroom Classic, hence my question

WARNING

NOTICE

CAUTION

PAY ATTENTION

Remember all the pain members who just went ahead and upgraded to CATALINA went thru. Despite warnings on multiple computer websites to not upgrade until issues were worked out. They went all happy happy got to upgrade

Despite Notices in Adobe blogs, Adobe Forums, etc, that initial CATALINA would cause problems, they went yep yep yep, latest nirvana from Apple, upgrade.

Despite Notices by Apple that 32 bit apps would be abolished, they went and pulled the trigger without updating apps etc to 64 bit

So, this time, WAIT

Watch the WWDC video.  Both Lr and Photoshop were shown running using Native processor code on an ARM mac mini.

The OP was asking about Lightroom Classic. The demo showed Lightroom Mac / Win desktop.

Sorry for the confusion.  I was replying to David, not the OP.  David wanted a source on

""They even demoed Lightroom and Photoshop working on these new Macs.""

Not seeing this on the web. Not finding via google. Have stumbled on Beta Testers having issues with chrome, and Beta Testers NOT having trouble with PS, LrC.

Beside the Apple Silicon 'capabilities', does LRC work on Big Sur, with our old Intel chips?

The Adobe statement I posted above says they will continue supporting Intel Macs, and that is consistent with what Adobe posted in their Support article Lightroom Classic and Big Sur | macOS 11 that showed up this week. It says “Lightroom Classic 10.x is compatible with macOS Big Sur” although “Lightroom Classic 9.x and earlier have not been tested for compatibility” and I assume will not be.
