Any ideas on why LrClassic freezes upon import? It's very despairing to try and work in a professional environment and have this app constantly freeze and prohibit me from doing my job.  I need to find an alternative.

Hi there,

We're sorry about the experience due to the Lightroom Classic freezing on your computer while importing.

Please share the version of Lightroom along with your computer's OS.

Does the app freezes while performing any other task except importing? Where are you importing your images from and how many images are you importing at once?

To get started, you may checkout the steps mentioned here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/lightroom-basic-troubleshooting-fix-most-issues.html

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Akash

MacBook Pro 16in 2019.
Catalina 10.15.6

Importing about 10 images from downloads. Should I move them first to
another file?

I seem to have the trouble when an external SD card reader is attached to
the USB C port. Not sure if this is the issue.

Also, after a couple of times force quitting LRC and restarting the Mac,
the problem seems to resolve. But it often occurs again.

There is something wrong with your computer.

With a proper functioning computer LrC does not Freeze, or make the computer Freeze, during the import process.

If it di No One would Use it, Buy It, Subscribe to it or keep it on their system.

You may be right. It’s a 2019 MacBook Pro. The problem seems to occur when
I have an external SD card reader attached to it. --

Do you have another external SD card reader?

Try copying those photos to your hard drive, into the folder you desire. Do this with Finder, with LrC closed. Then disconnect the SD card reader, bring up LrC, try the Import (in this case ADD).

What happens?

Definitely a card reader issue.  The import freezing has been extremely annoying.  But thanks to dagostudios post, I was also able to establish that it was the card reader interfering with the import process.  Don't know why.  But, copying the photos onto the hard drive, then dismounting and disconnecting the card reader fixed the problem!
