Lightroom Classic importing issue

Hello,

I'm importing photos from my SD card to lightroom with a new external harddrive. When import any set of photos it takes forever but moreover it only imports 5-10 images before it stalls. I always have to hit cancel and restart the import to get any remaining images to copy. I've done the update and this has not fixed the problem. I have plenty of space on my hd and the computer reads the sd fine for selection. Any thoughts? Thank you.

You could try a quick test to help determine the where the issue is by copying files directly to your drive first and then import to Lr. If that works seamlessly then it may be the card or the card reader or the external  hard drive. What OS are you running?

A possibility is that the card, or the card reader, is malfunctioning.

First up, getting the work done.

As you stated copying from the SD card to a hard drive works outside if LrC, do so, Copy them to the folder you want them in, then in LrC import them using ADD.

You might find this workaround speeds up imports, and change to it in general, but to each their own)

As to what is failing? hmm.

Moving on, how are you trying to accomplish the import from SD card in LrC using Copy? Specific questions:

Are you (one of 3)

  • Placing SD card in a card reader.

or

  • Keeping SD card in camera, connecting via USB.

or

  • Keeping SD card in camera, connecting via WiFi.

Next up

I have plenty of space on my hd and the computer

Two (possibly) different bits of space to consider.

  • Where is your catalog stored. How much free space in %, Looking for at least 20% (old standard, some calling for 30% lately)
  • Where are your photos stored. Same drive? How much space available (quantity, not %)

And.

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs.
