After 2 hours of troubleshooting, Apple support have asked me to put this back out to the community because I have done all the Adobe Lightroom Classic "solved" suggestions and still have the same issue with CPU burning it up in an idle state.
I have a new, fully spec'd MBP 16" with fresh OS and software loaded.
* i have reset my preferences
* i build 1:1 on import so all of that is sorted,
* Lightroom has opened and is idle with fan running hot
* 815% CPU in Activity Monitor
I have no idea what Lightroom could possibly be doing to labour the system so hard, given that it is just open and sitting idle.
I know that there are still a few people that are having this issue with the 16" MBP and Catalina.
Please let me know if you can shed any new light on this. Thanks
Hi John,
I had a technician from Adobe remotely fix the issue. They disabled the GPU and made some adjustments to the preview rendering settings. 1:1 previews are not being discarded once built.
They also purged the cache.
Activity monitor and heat/fan is back to normal

Exactly which version of Lightroom Classic is shown in Help > System Info?
>> * 815% CPU in Activity Monitor
Can you post a screenshot?

Any links you can point us to in these forums of posts describing the same symptoms as yours so we can build a pattern of behaviour?
