Lightroom Crashes on Startup

Lightroom crashes on startup. Or at least, it hangs, thinks it's crashed and throws up the crashed window. I'm not sure, but it seems functional in the background. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

What exact version of Lightroom? What operating system? How much RAM? Is this something that just started happening? Why do you think it "seems functional" in the background? Please provide some details that might assist in diagnosing the problem.

All good questions.

  • 9.2.1
  • Windows 10 2004 (I updated to see if it would help, no dice.)
  • It only happens after I close lightroom, then try to open it again. After that, it will crash every time I try to start it again until I restart my computer.
  • One time the crash window disappeared before lightroom crashed, I was able to select other pictures and interact for a short while before it closed.
  • One thing that may help is that I had both lightroom classic and 2020 installed at the same time before I removed lightroom 2020 (because it can't export PNGs for some dumb reason.)

The first thing that you should try is to switch off the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps to fix the issue.

Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > Restart Lightroom.

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

If Lightroom doesn't start correctly the please see "Solution 2" in the document behind the second link.

Another step is to try to reset the Lightroom preferences.

If this doesn't help we need more informations about your environment.

  • Which operating system do you use?
  • Which version of Lightroom do you use?

Please post the exact version and not only phrases as "recent", "latest" and so on.

Do you get an error message? If yes, please posrt the exact message or an screenshot.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 10 Pro 22H2 -- LR-Classic 13.2 - Photoshop 25.6 - Nik Collection 6.9 - PureRAW 4 - Topaz Photo AI 2

I didn't do any troubleshooting since yesterday, but it's working now for some reason. I'm going to keep an eye on it and post again if it starts acting up.
