Lightroom Running Very slow

After importing 84 photos yesterday, I found trying to generate a new collection very slow almost unresponsive. I thought it might be the camera still connected via USB howerer that was not the case. Today it is still as slow also I cannot rename any photos via libriary app. Any option box I open remains transparent for some time before displaying options. It unworkable.

My system comprises

Win 10 64 Bit

i7-5930K @ 3.5 GHz

16Gb Ram

Nvidia Gforce 1070 Graphics card 

Screen Res 3840 x 2160

All drivers are up to date .

You don't say anything about the Lightroom version you're using.

Lightroom's slowness can have many different causes. So we need more informations abot your environment.

On which hard drive the catalog is saved? Is this a SSD or a normal hard disk?

Where are your pictures saved? Internal or exteernal hard drive?

Which size does your RAW files have?

For the first step you should try is to switch off the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps to fix the issue.

Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > Restart Lightroom.

Another step is to try to reset the Lightroom preferences.

Thank you for your reply. The version of Lightroom 9.2. All pictures are stpred on internal HDD as is catalogue. I used Lightroom a couple of days later after this posdt and everything was fine, I could create new collection a nd rename phots ok. Today I've imported 3 pictures but same problem with renaming occurs.

Are there other programs and/or services running on your computer that are stressing the CPU and/or the RAM?

For example Windows search or indexer service.

Thanks again when I checked Task Manager it jumps up to about 24% but within a secord or two it goes right down to 1% and stayed around that pecentage with Lighreoom open. From my obsercvations this slowing up only seems to occur when Iv'e imported via USB . Even after disconnecting camera via USB Lightroom was still slow, it was only after a PC restart Lightroom was responing ok.

Some possible misunderstanding, perhaps contest, perhaps syntax, so some inquirys

 

"Trying to generaate a new collection"

Just to create a standard collection, or to move photos into the collection?

Or trying to create a smart collection?

Or are you mixing up catalog with collection

Creating a standard  collection should take a nano second

Dragging photos into a standard collection should take a second

Creating a smart collection, similar amount of time, as in minimal

 

"rename any photos via library app"

Huh? Do you mean Library module?

Do you mean in menu bar, in Library, select rename photos?

Thanks for reply,  I was trying to start a collection, not catalogue and renaming pictures via library module. My main concern was the slowness of the using any of the new collection or renaming features. I used Lighroom a couple of days after my post and everything was working fine, today I imported 3 photos  jpg format but again renaming via library module is very slow.

Thank you Ian I have just checked my anti virus protection , all activity is monitored. At present Lightroom is working fine, but I did notice when the issue was prevelent that opening an option window in other apps would also lag. As an example opening the Custom and control Google Chrome window caused a problem. The window would open but no commands were visible all you could see was a blank transparent window, but as now the system is stable and working ok with no issues.

In the past, and this may have been fixed, and this may have been antidotal, Google Chrome running was seen to be a resource hog, and running in background while running Lightroom Classic, slowed things down. People running other browsers did not report at least in this community the same.

I noticed that after deleting  10 instances of Chrome running in Task Manager and also updating my Razer Synapse software that the lag went away. Today Adobe apps are being updated , I checked Lighroom again and it's working ok, even with other Adobe apps being updated in the backgroung. Yikes, multiple instance of Chrome, that led me just niw to google on that, and following is the search result:

So, by design that is normal, explains the resource hog monkyer given to Chrome by some (not my browser) Your problem Will come back if you have multiple tabs open in Chrome. Explains why some state DO NOT RUN CHROME WHILE RUNNING LRC. Not a tech, not a programmer, this is an opionion, not nessecarily fact.
