Last night I was trying to upload images from a compact flash disc and I got a message that said I needed to upgrade. It wouldn't permit me to upload any of the images. Later, after arriving home, I selected doing the upgrade. I had approximately 13,000 images in my All Photographs file. Today that number was 2100. One collection with approximately 2100 images shows images in the collection but when I click on the collection all of the images are blank. There are about 200 images that I had uploaded after doing the upgrade and those are the only ones visible. Any idea how I can get the original images back from that catalog?

Double check what catalog you are opening.

Use your Operating Systems File Manager (Finder on a MAC, File Explorer on Windows) and look for LRCAT files

Only one way to find out
BUT, copy it to another location just in case, have a copy on hand.

Reccomend you copy that file to another location, then double click on the copy, the library previews will get recreated, the catalog will probably show missing folders, missing images, depending on where you locate it

Following is a link on fixing that

David, I was able to go to a previous catalog but the same message showed up again a couple of days later when I was trying to open Lightroom. I'm attaching the message. Again, I was able to go to a previous catalog but I'm afraid to click on "upgrade" because I'm not sure I'll have all my previous images and collections. I believe this message is coming from Adobe but I don't understand why you don't have a choice when to do the upgrade. It appears to be now or never. You can't choose "exit" and then re-open Lightroom. If you try to the message reappears....and if you are able to use a previous catalog you never know when the message will appear again.

Where/how did you get that message about upgrading.
What needed to be upgraded? We need details. We need the exact error message.

Are you usaing Lightroom the Cloud Centric version or LR Classic the Traditional version?
It does not sound, to me, that it was the LR catalog (that is if you are using LR Classic) that needed to be upgraded.
None of what you describe sounds like it was a LR Classic update or upgrade.
Please state the exact verion of LR you are using on your Computer.
If you are using a pad of some type and have LR installed on that please state what version is being used on that.
You said between game you upload to LR? Do you mean IMPORT into the Lr Classic catalog/
Sorry but I am confused. You do not Uplaod to LR Classic, you Import.
Then you said "when I get home I finish the task"? What task? Importing the images into the LR Classic catalog?
