I had a computer issue a few weeks back and had to buy another Mac. I was able to salvage the LR6 .dmg file and load the program onto the new computer.
However the installer will not accept the Adobe serial number.
I doubt that I have made an error typing this in but have no idea why the Adobe installer doe not like the old serial number.
What is next? Thanks for any help.

If the LR6 installer was purchased as an Upgrade, you will also need the Serial Number for your previous version (eg. LR5). Perhaps that is what your install is asking for- the previous SN.
(Note: LR6 can not be installed on Mac Catalina or Big Sur OS 64bit systems.)
