Recently, once open and often in Develop mode and making a crop adjustment, the panels will go black. I've had no success in getting them to appear unless I exit LR completely. This appears to be a problem some time ago, but I'm current in Mac OS (10.15.3) and LR Classic.

And if none of that helps consider resetting the preference file. Resetting the preference file is Adobe speak for deleating the preference file and then letting Lightroom Classic to recreate it.

The preference file can get corrupted, resulting in odd behavior. Some people have a knee jerk reaction in thinking they need to uninstall then reinstall Lightroom Classic, maybe that could be called for, but it would be better to first reset the preference file.

Be aware that resetting the preference file will result in Lightroom Classic creating a new catalog instead if opening your previously opened catalog (normally) so make sure you know where your catalog is.

Be aware the resetting the preference file will revert some settings in Preferences to defaults. So be aware of what you have changed, so that you can put those back the way you want them.

GPU was set to automatic and I believe it was occuring then. I changed today to custom and enabled it. I will disable GPU first, then reset the preference file and post my results.

Disabling GPU did not make a difference. As soon as I switch to a different view, the panels went black. I will attempt to remove the preference file.

Same result if I remove the preference file, as soon as I select a view, the panels go black.

What is different is this happens when I move LightRoom to a secondary display using SideCar so I can use my iPad. So perhaps an issue with the display on iPad when in Sidecar?
