LR Classic CC 8.2 crashing on open

I updated to the newest LR Classic update this morning (8.2), and the application will not open, instead generating a crash report.  I also updated to the new version of PS, but haven't noticed any issues yet. Restarting my computer did not fix the issue.  I also tried rolling back to the previous version and re-updating.  The issue persists.

Dear All,

I tried to install Lightroom CC Classic Version 8.2 today and it worked. I installed 2 updates of the NVIDIA driver since my last post.

The latest NVIDIA driver = 25.21.14.1935.

From my viewpoint, this issue is solved now.

Best Regards,

I suppose I'll try those steps later, but I'm not sure why they'd only apply to the newest update.  The version of Lightroom Classic CC prior to 8.2 opens just fine after I rolled back to it so I doubt it's an issue with damaged distributable packages.  Also, my Windows is fully up to date.

Hi Sahil,

I´m facing the same problem.

Don´t think I have to search my pc for troubleshooting. I expect that new updates has to run properly. That is for what I paid.

Ralf

Done all that, but doesn't help.

Sill crash on start of LR Classic 8.2 and LR CC 2.2., but no problem with LR Classic 8.1 and LR CC 2.1.

Yes - that's fine as a temporary workaround but I pay my subscription to be able to use the latest version and still nothing.

Anyone any ideas?

Yes - tried all of that.  No luck.

It does seem GPU related as the only thing that has worked so far is to disable to GPU entirely (not just hardware acceleration).

This is obviously not a workable solution long term.

Any update from Adobe?

Hi, exact same issue here.

  • Windows 10 up to date
  • GPU Driver updated
  • All other adobe programs work OK
  • 8.1 still boots
  • 8.2 immediately crashes - doesn't get to splash screen

In order to try and fix this late last night I tried:

  • Different user account - no change
  • Updated all MS visual C++ redistributable packages - no change
  • Updated GPU Drivers to latest (GTX 1080 Ti - 418.81) - no change
  • Windows Update - no change
  • Remove and re-install lightroom - no change
  • Remove all CC apps and CC, followed by CC cleaner and a fresh reinstall (that was fun at midnight last night) - no change.

This morning I did manage to get it to boot - and this was by disabling the GPU completely (obviously not a workable solution). It did boot.  I turned off GPU acceleration to see if it would boot with the GPU enabled - no luck, still crashes.  Crash report included below for info.

Urgent fix please!

I have the same problem.

I was using LR 8.2 today and tried to use the Enhance Details. An error came up saying I needed to update Windows 10 for it to work. I updated Windows 10 and ever since Lightroom Classic CC and CC for Desktop crash upon startup.

I have uninstalled Classic CC and gone back to 8.1 and I am able to work. This is very frustrating.

i have the same problem.

i was having lots of problems with 8.1, but at least i was able to work slowly, then i update to 8.2 expecting to solve the problems, but instead i'm completely unable to work since yesterday because the LR 8.2 crashes a few seconds after opening.

we really need urgently a way to convert the db to LR 6. LR classic CC is impossible to use.

Any idea how to solve this?

Best Regards,

Following the troubleshooting tips and editing agprefs does nothing.  Disabling graphics card is not a good long term solution especially since Windows will just re-detect it and reinstall it when you aren't looking.  Going back to 8.1 works for now.
