LR Classic update 9.2.1 on PC Collections photos disappeared

My system just updated to the 9.2.1 version of LR Classic for PC. 
I had to re-import all the catalog photos (!) and all my Collections are empty of photos (!!!).

Where did they go and how do I get them back??

You have almost certainly opened the wrong catalog file. Re-importing is the wrong thing to do. You need to find th right catalog file and open that. Using your operating system's search feature, find all files whose name ends with .LRCAT an open each one found by double-clicking on it until you find th catalog you want.
