I run LR 5 - is this a 32-bit or 64-bit application?

I want to upgrade my MAC to Catalina and it only runs 64-bit apps.

Lightroom 5 came in both flavors, 32bit and 64bit.

However, Lightroom 5 cannot be installed on Catalina, since the installer is 32bit.

If your LR 5 is already installed and is 64bit, then you should be able to upgrade in place to Catalina and it will continue to run. If it is 32bit, then it will not run. You can check in Help->System Info next to "Application architecture"

Question - since LR5 is already on my system, would it have to be reinstalled if I upgrade OS to Catalina?

How does the Installer program get involved during an OS upgrade?

1. No.

2. The Lightroom installer is not involved in the Apple macOS 10.15 Catalina installation. After the upgrade to Catalina you will not be able to uninstall or reinstall Lightroom 5.

Before proceeding you may wish to insure you are running Lightroom 5.7.1 the latest version of LR 5.
