Hi all,

I'm getting sporatic, automatic duplicates when I import. It's a new thing, only happening recently. No settings changed, just updates installed.

Description:

  • 3,988 photos on card, no duplicates here.
  • LrC import screen: Shows 3,988 photos. Source is the card, "Copy" is selected, File Handling only has "Into Subfolder" selected.
  • Click "Import"
  • Wait for a loooooooooong time
  • Go to LrC-created folder on hard drive AND in LrC... shows 5,140 photos????

Looking closer, it clearly isn't duplicating every file.

Anybody have any insights here? Thanks.

Have you inspected in camera for those file names? Are you sure LrC is doing this, and not the camera?

Can confirm the card has no duplicate files. The random duplicates only appear after imported into LrC.

How are you getting the image files off the camera?

Are you connecting the camera directly to the computer with a cable?

Are you using a Card Reader and cable?

Are you using a memory card slot built into the computer?

The images are on an SD card that has been inserted into the reader in a wired Caldigit dock.

Do a TEST import and Copy the files off the memory card to a folder on your computer but not the final folder you would of used if importing directly from the memory card. Then in the import dialog select Move, or copy, and point Lr to move or copy, those images to the final destination folder.

What happens? Are some images duplicated?

I suspect LrC and your OS is losing the connection to the memory card in that Dock you are using.

I have been having the same problem over the course of this past year. Duplicate files are created in the source folder when importing files into Lr Classic. This ruins the one to one correspondence between LrC and the source folder and eats up memory on my hard drives. This is not a random problem. It happens every time.

OP here, I ended up tracing the problem back to my Caldigit card reader. When I went back to my old reader, the problem went away.

Hello, may I suggest you start a new thread please.

Give clear steps of what you are doing. Screen shots are helpful.

Your version of Lightroom, OS and your set up are vital.

Thank you
