Describe the problem step-by-step and in detail. Lightroom is open, then what do you do and what happens? Explain it so it seems like we are standing at your computer watching what you do.

Is there an error message? If so, please quote the exact unedited word-for-word error message.

So, its not Lightroom that is crashing, it is your computer that is crashing. Is that correct?

Can you please walk us through the actions that cause this, step-by-step?

Just a thought out of the box, please post a screen capture of what you see in the folder where your Catalog File is located. The default location is "User name" Pictures > Lightroom.

If by chance you see a file that carries the name of Catalog file but ends .lock (LOCK) delete that file and no other file.

That is a temp file that is placed there when your Catalog file is opened in LrC. If LrC shuts down abnormally it will prevent any further use of the Catalog.

Actually now crashes even in safe mode.

I suspect its not just a LRc issue but a imac issue going to do some first aid on the drive
