Hello All,

I have tried to search for this solution, but in vain and was hoping that you guys on the forum might have the answer.

I have a 2017 MBP 13" with the i5 processor and 8 GB ram. Wile it does surprisingly okay with my wedding workflow while I am on the move (I use it on the field to tranfer data to external SSD from the CF card and make smart previews which are sync to my iPad LR mobile), it becomes a bit tired when i connect it to my external screen at home. (HD for now, but will upgrade to a 2K Benq soon).

Mac Fan controller shows temperatures hitting 80 degrees centigrade and fan at 6k-7k RPM.

If I get an eGPU like the RX580, will it take the load of the inetrnal GPU and give the laptop some relief? Also does lightroom perform any better or worse or no perceptable change with the RX530?

The MBP runs Catalina and the RAW file are from the D800.

Many Thanks,

Sudhir

Edit: The ambient temperature of the room would be about 25 - 30 degrees centrigrade. (Bangalore, India)

I have a MacMini with a Blackmagic eGPU. The eGPU makes a lot of difference.

Yes to both questions. Getting an eGPU is the answer.

Thank you for the quick response Johan! Do you have personal experience with a similar setup? Or an eGPU with Macs in general? Im trying to do my best research as I have to get the GPU from the USA!

Johan, do you know anything about other eGPUs on the market?  The Blackmagic eGPU is currently on backorder for 10-12 weeks, and the Pro version is discontinued.  I'm looking at a Razer Core X, but I need to get the graphics card to go with it.  Any recommendations on graphics cards?

Also, I assume these work well with Catalina?
