Moving an image from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop 2021

I've always found that it took Lightroom Classic several minutes to move an image to Photoshop for further editing on my Dell laptop with Windows 10.  But with the latest Adobe updates, I've found that, more often than not, Photoshop fails to open.   I've tried opening Photoshop before doing any work in Lightroom Classic, but that doesn't work either.  I'd appreciate any advice on how to remedy the problem, because I like to hopscotch back and forth between the two programs when editing landscape images.
