Need to upgrade catalgogue

When I sign in to Lightroom, am being told "We need to upgrade your catalogue for use with Lightroom Classic." It says the new catalogue will be in specified destination and previews will also be converted. I am afraid to do this on my own and wanted to chat with someone from Adobe but can't find out how to chat with anyone.

Oh, and always have a backup of your catalog

And always have backups of your photos

And remember, backing up your catalog does not backup your photos

Never backup to the same hard drive as the source

Preferably have multiple backups on multiple drives.

moving on

This would occur IF you just upgraded LrC with an upgrade/update that is major. This would be due to database changes.

The last time this occurred was going from v8 to v9.

If you have more than one catalog, this will occur for each catalog when you open them

What happens is LrC copy's the catalog, and when it does so, makes any modifications required while doing so. The previous catalog is unharmed. LrC will add a suffix to the file name. tyically  _2 (or is that -2)

Older versions of LrC will not be able to open the new catalog.

If you are just doing the normal update, say from v9.3 to v9.4 this should not be happening (unless you are opening an old catalog pre v9)

Upgrading a catalog is a seamless operation, and one that is necessary. When you agree to allow the upgrade to continue, Lightroom will simply create a new copy of the catalog you have been using. Depending on the size of the catalog, it could take from a few seconds to a few minutes to complete. The new catalog will have the same name as the old catalog, but will have a -2 added to the end of its name. When the upgrade is completed Lightroom will open using the new catalog, and you will be able to continue, using the new version of Lightroom and the new catalog right in the position where you finished in your previous session. There really is nothing to be concerned about because it is a necessary step to be taken in order to continue with your upgraded Lightroom Classic.
