I have an older program Lightroom 4, which I am perfectly happy with, except that a friend helped me to shoot a wedding using a newer camera, a Nikon D7100, and the old program does not recognize the files. You'll need to convert the NEF files to DNG in order to work on your version of Lightroom, which can be done using Adobe's free DNG converter.
There is a link in the fourth paragraph to download the converter for either Windows or Mac OS.
