Definitely get the drivers up to date.

I don't believe there's a problem with Radeon HD cards, and FWIW, I'm using a XFX AMD Radeon R9 280 with 3Gb. You're going to need a recent generation card with at least 2Gb of memory such as the AMD R9 2xx series or nvidia’s Geforce 700 or 900.

Now that you have it working, can you check what the Triple buffer settings are showing?

For me it worked out with the latest grapic driver via autodetect utility. This is not what Dell is supporting, but it works.

I posted over in a new problem report on Photoshop.com and Eric Chan himself has replied: LIGHTROOM CC - Problem with my graphics processor‌. Here's a quote:

"Eric Chan (Camera Raw Engineer) 16 minutes ago

Yes, we (Adobe) are investigating this.  Thanks for your patience.

In the meantime, it would be helpful to check if you have the latest AMD driver installed. One user (in another thread) reported that he not only had to run the driver update, but first had to completely uninstall the existing driver, and then install the latest driver (from scratch). He then tried Lightroom CC again and found that GPU feature was enabled and working correctly."
So, a confirmed issue that's been looked into. Makes me feel better anyway. Of course, any potential fix will either need an update to LR (so not going to happen quickly), or it will need AMD to get involved and issue a new driver (again, unlikely to happen imminently).

Changing the triple buffering setting does nothing here either. Overall LR does appear to be more responsive than it was before, but this could just be down to the 'fresh install' factor more than improvements to the program. Guess I'll be holding off on processing my latest photos some more and continue focusing on studying instead.

Ok back from the store, I upgraded to an nVidia card... (GTX 750, the 2 GB DDR5 model, there's a 1 GB version too), now the error is gone (and with it, 129 € are gone too ), and the name of my card is there.
Indeed there is a faster rendering of the images, most noticeable when zooming when zooming (compared to how it was before). As for the develop settings, they were already "real time" for me in LR 5... but I must admit they are now "real time smoother", if that makes any sense. Very responsive and fluid.
I hope Adobe fixes the issue with Radeons or some fix is found. Best of luck for you all.

Same problem with Intel HD 4400 on Dell XPS 13.

When trying to update drivers from Intel website, I get an error saying that I should look for the manufacturer's drivers, aka Dell. Under Dell Update webpage, it says that I have the latest version, though it dates back to 2013.

I am now trying to force installing the Intel driver, even though it is not the approved version from Dell.

Adobe confirms that HD 4400 is supported :

Minimum System Requirements

  • 64-bit OS versions only
  • OpenGL 3.3 and later
  • Mac OS 10.9 and later
  • Windows 7 and later

Note: Intel 4400 or later required

Just forced the driver update, by downloading the zip file from Intel website, unzipping it, going to device manager, selected Intel Graphic driver, Update Driver, Browse, Have Disk, Select file igdlh64.inf under Graphic folder.

It works now, graphic card is recognized. I also hope that this new driver will fix the flickering I was expericing on my Dell XPS 13.

Will now test to see if the performance improvement is noticeable or not.

GREAT performance improvement so far. Adding gradient filter is smoother, and when moving sliders, preview is instantaneous. It is like having a new PC.

That's coming from a modest laptop, i5 Intel HD 4400.

Good stuff.

Hi everyone,

My name is Eric Chan, and I work on Camera Raw and Lightroom as an engineer.

My team has been investigating the reports of GPU support being disabled in Lightroom CC and Camera Raw 9 on some Windows systems with AMD GPUs. To help figure out what's going on, I've written a small utility software that can gather some GPU information and write it into a text log file. I would greatly appreciate it if some of you would be willing to give this a try. It should only take a few minutes of your time. If you'd like to participate, please keep reading ...

Instructions:

1. The utility software is named "acr_gpu_test". You can download it (a 39 MB zip file) here:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35081204/acr_gpu_test.exe.zip

2. Unzip the file. Inside is an executable file named "acr_gpu_test.exe".

3. Double-click acr_gpu_test.exe. A window should pop up momentarily, then go away.

4. You should now have a new file named "log.txt" in the same folder as acr_gpu_test.exe. Please email that log.txt file to me. You can use my personal email address, which is madmanchan@gmail.com.

Thanks very much.

Eric Chan

Hello again everyone,

Thanks to all of you who provided log files so far.  This has been very helpful.  I have enough information at the moment to do some investigation, internally.

At the moment I do not require any more log files.  If I need more information going forward, I will reply to this thread and ask.

Thanks again for your help.

Eric

Hi Keith,

If you wouldn't mind posting your AMD driver version (or emailing it to me at madmanchan@gmail.com), that might be useful information.  I can then see if it differs from the ones installed on the systems of users who are encountering GPU support issues in Lr.  Thanks.

I was finally able to make this work following the instructions and making sure all previous AMD Drivers were uninstalled.  Here's the final working configuration.

thank you to all of the folks who posted the 14.1 monitor driver fix.  The only thing I would add is that it was the 14.4 version of the AMD Radeon HD driver set which installs the 14.1 monitor drivers.
