Photoshop edits not reappearing in lightroom

I have been having this issue for a while, and I can't for the life of me figure out what I am doing wrong. I am fairly new(ish) to lightroom and photoshop. When I am using lightroom, and I use the "edit in Photoshop" feature, I edit the photo, save, and return to lightroom. The photo is there. If I close and come back the edited photo is not there. It is not moved in the photostrip, I cannot find it anywhere. It happens every single time.
I have googled this and cannot figure out what the issue is. Any help would be appreciated so much!

Mac or Windows? Which version of the OS?

Which exact version of Lightroom?

Which exact version of Photoshop?

When you come back into Lightroom, is the edited file still referenced by the catalog and just missing from its previously known disk location?

Or is the file completely missing from the catalog?

Can the file still be found on disk? At its old location?

The fact that Photoshop-edited files appear in the Lightroom catalog immediately (with the help of a background script) is very convenient for most people.

But it causes all sorts of confusion about what actually happens. Most people seem to think that the edited photo is now "in" Lightroom. But it's not. It's out there on your disk system, wherever Photoshop was instructed to save it.

The problem with this is that people stop paying attention to where they save from Photoshop. You should always know exactly where you save.

In Photoshop there is a Preference toggle to "save to original folder". This is normally checked by default, and then it goes back to the same folder the original came from. But if this option is unchecked, Photoshop saves to whatever location it last saved to.

When in Photoshop, don't just "save". Keep a check on where you're saving. Always know where your files are!

If Photoshop is saving to a different folder than the one the raw file came from, then it won't be there the next time you open. Then you have to open the "Folders" panel and navigate to that folder.

so, I checked the"save to original folder" option, it is checked....

I understand that PS is saving it somewhere, (although I'm actually not sure where) how do I make it so that it is saving to the proper place??
