I am organizing my photos inside a folder using Custom Order. Sometimes I need to relocate a photo over a long "distance" in the grid. This requires to pick the photo, move it to the edge of the window, and slowly advancing to the place where you want it. Is there a way to show the grid open in two different windows so I can easily grab a photo from one location and drop it in another (as you do when you want to move files between folders, for example)? Thank you.
I read this tip some time ago. Have not used it much. It might answer your question.
To Custom Sort one thumbnail to a ‘distant’ position in a large number of files in Grid View-
1) Select the #1 File you wish to ‘move’ in Sort order
2) Additionally Select a #2 File with [Ctrl] in the ‘New’ location
3) Hold [Alt] and drag the #2 File left or right.
The #1 File will re-locate next to #2.

I've been struggling with this myself, and this is a great tip, works as described.

This Ben Warde video shows the technique.

@mike240, I don't think this is the video you meant to link to. This is on AutoStacking, not custom order of images.
